Want to know a little more?

Here’s some more information about the course and what you can expect.

English for Work is a practical two-day Step2Skills course designed to help you communicate more effectively in workplace situations.

You'll practise understanding instructions and messages, speaking with customers and colleagues, asking for clarification and writing clear workplace emails and notes.

It is non-regulated Tailored Learning. It is not Functional Skills English, GCSE English or an ESOL qualification.

You'll practise understanding spoken and written workplace information, asking useful questions when something isn't clear and choosing the right tone for different situations.

You'll also practise communicating with colleagues and customers, handling misunderstandings respectfully, writing professional emails and handover notes and giving a short professional introduction or work-related explanation.

The course is face-to-face and practical.

You'll learn through examples, demonstrations, supported practice, workplace messages, discussions, role-play and short writing activities.

You can practise realistic workplace situations without having to reveal unnecessary personal information.

There is no external English exam.

Your tutor will look at the practical communication activities you complete during the course, including spoken interactions, workplace messages, emails and short explanations.

The course has five objectives and learners normally need to achieve at least four for overall course achievement.

Attendance alone does not automatically mean the course has been achieved.

Your progress and achievement are recorded through ROMAN's Step2Skills Record of Achievement process.

This is not a Functional Skills, GCSE, ESOL or Entry 3 qualification certificate.

You'll agree a realistic next step based on your goals.

That might include using your communication skills when looking for work, moving towards employment, further English or ESOL learning, Functional Skills where suitable, job-search support or sector training.
